Echoes Within These Walls: Reclaiming St Agnes Place

How do we remember the places that are no longer here?

Echoes within These Walls is an invitation to reflect on the enduring spirit of unity, resistance, and heritage of St Agnes Place, South London. Occupied by the Rastafari community in 1973, the House became a cultural hub for an emerging generation of African and Caribbean people. Within its walls and surrounding street corners, Rastafari gathered, reasoned, organised and laid out a spiritual and political vision for radical Blackess in the heart of Babylon.

Although the building was demolished in 2007, this intervention attempted to reclaim their displaced narratives. Through oral histories, film and visual arts that have been crafted in conversation with St Agnes Place’s Rastafari community, we invite you to listen to the voices, see the faces, and feel the echoes of St. Agnes Place.
